The Power of “Anyway”: Finding Your Spiritual Anchor in a Chaotic World

In an era where the 24-hour news cycle often feels like a relentless wave of uncertainty, it is easy to feel adrift. We are frequently told that the world is becoming more divided, more egocentric, and more cynical. Yet, in his poignant piece, “Demonstrate the Blessings Anyway,” author Rob Loveland reminds us that our internal compass—specifically our commitment to divine virtues—is exactly what allows us to navigate these turbulent waters with grace. By drawing inspiration from the timeless “Do It Anyway” philosophy, Loveland provides a spiritual roadmap for staying centered even when the world seems to be pulling us in the opposite direction.

The foundation of Loveland’s message lies in the famous poem popularized by Mother Teresa, which argues that “good” should be done for its own sake, regardless of how it is received. Loveland expands this concept by applying it to the 13 Divine Qualities, Blessings, and Virtues (as defined by the Council of Love). His approach is a powerful reminder that our character should not be a reaction to the world’s failings, but rather a steadfast reflection of our highest selves. It is a call to radical resilience: a decision to be the light specifically because the world feels dark.

The beauty of this “Anyway” philosophy is found in its contrast. Loveland juxtaposes the pressures of modern society against the timelessness of the virtues. For instance, while the world may reward the egocentric and the loud, he urges us to express humility anyway. In a culture that often incentivizes haste and “shortcut” ethics, he calls for prudence. These are not merely suggestions for “being a good person”; they are intentional acts of spiritual defiance. Each time we choose compassion over indifference or truth over popular fiction, we reclaim our agency from a chaotic environment.

Furthermore, Loveland highlights that these virtues—such as Awe, Beauty, and Joy—are not just moral duties, but survival tools. When the world presents us with ugliness or makes happiness feel like an elusive prize, choosing to see beauty and find joy becomes a transformative practice. It shifts our frequency from one of lack to one of abundance. By holding to these virtues, we stop being v*****s of our circumstances and start becoming architects of a new way of living. Grace, the final virtue mentioned, acts as the ultimate safety net, reminding us that we don’t have to carry the weight of the world alone; we can allow a higher power to lift us up.

Ultimately, Loveland’s message is one of profound hope and collective evolution. He suggests that we are currently on the “doorstep” of a new world—a transition that requires us to focus on what truly matters. By committing to these 13 blessings, we do more than just improve our own lives; we contribute to a collective shift in consciousness. In a world that may look to keep us down, choosing to demonstrate these blessings is the most powerful way to find our way home, together. It is an invitation to stop waiting for the world to change and to start being the change the world so desperately needs.

“Demonstrate the Blessings Anyway”

By Rob Loveland

I was quietly contemplating spiritual concepts when the poem, “Do It Anyway,” came to mind, and I questioned what that would look like if focused on the 13 Divine Qualities, Blessings & Virtues.

To remind you, the poem, “Do It Anyway,” was written by Kent M. Keith, but popularized by Mother Teresa—most often remembered by the stanza, “The good you do today will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.”

So for me, holding fast to the 13 Blessings & Virtues in a chaotic world would look something like this:

The world may pressure you to make hasty and easy decisions. Be prudent anyway.

The world may convince you to disregard the plight of others. Be compassionate anyway.

The world may encourage you to give up. Stand in fortitude anyway.

The world may seem hopeless. Keep hope alive anyway.

The world may reward the egocentric. Express humility anyway.

The world may encourage you to be greedy. Be charitable anyway.

The world may entice you with the morally wrong. Be pure anyway.

The world may advocate for the unbelievable. Hold to the truth anyway.

The world may present you many plausible stories. Apply your wisdom anyway.

The world may seem entirely mundane. Hold a sense of awe anyway.

The world may show you ugliness. See the beauty anyway.

The world may make happiness seem elusive. Find the joy anyway.

The world may look to keep you down. Allow Heaven to show you grace.

I hope this serves as an inspirational roadmap to help you find peace in these seemingly chaotic times. In spite of outward appearances, we’re on the doorstep of realizing the promises of a new world, and with a dedicated focus on what truly matters, we will surely find our way there … together.

* The Council of Love defines the 13 Divine Qualities, Blessings & Virtues as Prudence, Compassion, Fortitude, Hope, Humility, Charity, Purity, Truth, Wisdom, Awe, Beauty, Joy, and Grace.
