Understanding Your Internal Compass: The Power of Emotional Alignment

In the journey of personal growth, we often look for external signs to tell us if we are on the right path. We analyze our bank accounts, our social status, or our career milestones to measure success. However, as highlighted in the profound teachings of Esther Hicks, the most reliable indicator of our progress isn’t found in the outside world—it is found within our emotional state. By understanding the connection between our feelings and our “wholeness,” we can unlock a more fluid, joyful, and successful way of living.

The Emotional Guidance System

The core of this philosophy suggests that your emotions serve as a sophisticated guidance system. You can tell by the way you feel in the present moment whether you are perceiving your life from the perspective of your “broader self” or if you have become misaligned. When you feel a sense of ease, inspiration, or joy, you are in a state of alignment. You are looking at the world through the eyes of wholeness, seeing the possibilities and the value in yourself and others.

Conversely, when you feel tension, frustration, or clarity-lacking confusion, it is a signal that you are “crossways of the current.” This isn’t a punishment, but rather a helpful indicator. Just as a GPS alerts you when you’ve taken a wrong turn, negative emotions are simply notifications that your current thought patterns are temporarily disallowing your natural state of well-being.

The Cost of Resistance

One of the most striking points in the Phoenix teachings is the idea that disallowing happiness actually blocks the very things we think will make us happy. Many of us fall into the trap of thinking, “I will be happy once I achieve X.” However, the mechanics of emotional alignment work in reverse. If you are currently resisting your happiness—perhaps by focusing on what is missing or what is going wrong—you are effectively blocking the path for new, positive experiences to reach you.

This concept applies equally to clarity and security. We often believe that once we have a certain amount of money or a specific plan, we will finally feel “sure-footed.” But clarity is an internal frequency first. If you are disallowing clarity by dwelling on confusion or doubt, you cannot perceive the secure and sure-footed steps that are right in front of you. To see the solution, you must first align yourself with the feeling of the solution.

Shifting Your Perspective

So, how do we move from being “crossways of the current” back into the flow? It begins with the conscious recognition of your feelings. Instead of fighting a negative emotion, acknowledge it as a signal. Ask yourself: “Am I looking at this situation the way my broader self would?” Usually, the broader perspective is one of hope, solutions, and unconditional self-worth.

By prioritizing your emotional state above all else, you stop being a v****m of circumstance and start being a creator of your experience. When you reach for a thought that feels slightly better, you gradually move back into alignment with the wholeness of who you are. This shift doesn’t just make you feel better in the moment; it opens the floodgates for the happiness, clarity, and security you have been seeking.

Living from Wholeness

Ultimately, living a life of “wholeness” means recognizing that you are a multifaceted being with access to a broader point of view. You are meant to feel secure, sure-footed, and happy. By paying attention to the way you feel and making small, incremental shifts toward better-feeling thoughts, you stop resisting your own good. You begin to flow with the current of your life rather than against it, discovering that everything you desire is much closer than it seems when you are simply willing to allow your own happiness.
