The Alchemy of the Journey: Four Gates Every Dream Must Pass through
There is an ancient truth:
a person receives not what they dream about, but what they transform their dream into.
Everything in this world is born four times.
First — in imagination.
Then — in the heart.
Next — in the mind.
And only after that — in reality.
That is why some people spend their entire lives talking about their possibilities, while others one day begin living the life they once only imagined.
The first gate is imagination.
It is a space where there are no laws of time, money, age, or education. Everything is possible here. That is why children possess the astonishing ability to create entire worlds from nothing more than a stick, a cardboard box, or a sheet of paper. Their consciousness has not yet been limited by the experience of failure.
Imagination is the source of everything new. Without it, there would be no great discoveries, no works of art, and no bold decisions.
But if you remain here for too long, a trap appears.
A person can spend years imagining a new life, feeling inspired, mentally living through success… while changing absolutely nothing.
The mind does not always distinguish between a vividly experienced inner image and a real experience. That is why, after beautiful fantasies, people often feel a strange sense of satisfaction, as though they have already moved closer to their goal. The energy is spent within, while external life remains exactly the same.
The next gate is the dream.
A dream already chooses a direction.
It answers not the question, “What is possible?”, but rather, “What is truly mine?”
It begins to draw attention toward certain possibilities while making others almost invisible.
It is no coincidence that people say:
Where attention goes, energy flows.
But a dream does not like endless waiting either.
It is like a seed. If it is planted in the ground, it will grow. If it is endlessly carried around in a beautiful box and shown to everyone as the magnificent tree it will someday become, it will remain nothing more than a seed.
That is why the third gate appears — the plan.
This is where the magic of waiting ends and the magic of creation begins.
The difference between a dream and a plan is always very simple.
The dream says: “One day I will start my own business.”
The plan replies: “Today I will register a domain name, tomorrow I will study the market, and next week I will create my first product.”
The dream says: “I want to become slim and light.”
The plan replies: “Today I will walk five kilometers, tonight I will not eat after eight o’clock, and tomorrow I will prepare a healthy breakfast.”
The dream says: “I want to learn a foreign language.”
The plan replies: “Twenty new words every day, fifteen minutes of listening practice every morning, and one conversation every week.”
The dream says: “I want a happy relationship.”
The plan replies: “I will learn to truly hear another person, stop expecting them to read my mind, and begin speaking honestly and calmly.”
The dream says: “I want to write a book.”
The plan replies: “One page every day, whether inspiration comes or not.”
The dream says: “I want to change my life.”
The plan replies: “Today I change one day. Tomorrow I change another.”
A plan always brings a dream down to earth. It transforms the endless “someday” into a concrete “today.”
But there is one more gate that people speak about far less often. Realization.
This is the moment when the inner world becomes the outer world.
When ideas become actions.
When knowledge becomes experience.
When a dream begins to exist without the help of imagination.
And here another mystery reveals itself.
Many people know how to dream.
Quite a few know how to make plans.
But not everyone knows how to receive the fruits of their own labor.
Some people constantly postpone life until later.
Others, having reached one summit, immediately begin searching for the next one, never allowing themselves to truly taste the victory.
They keep running, as though happiness is always waiting around the next corner.
But the journey never ends somewhere in the future.
It always unfolds only in the present moment.
Perhaps that is why the ancient sages said:
True maturity is not the ability to accomplish much, but the ability to recognize the fruits of your own efforts and receive them with gratitude.
And then one more truth becomes clear.
Imagination gives birth to possibility.
A dream chooses the direction.
A plan opens the road.
And realization transforms the inner world into destiny.
And all that remains is to ask yourself honestly:
At which gate is my life standing today?
