The August Eclipse Season Is Opening a Door

By Zachary Fisher

On August 12, 2026, the Moon will move directly between the Earth and the Sun, creating a total solar eclipse across parts of Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal and Russia. Here in Maryland, we will experience only a small partial eclipse, beginning around 1:15 p.m., reaching its maximum near 1:52 p.m. and ending around 2:29 p.m.

Then, overnight on August 27 into August 28, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible across much of North America.

Astronomically, eclipses are simply powerful alignments between the Sun, Moon and Earth. But throughout history, they have also been seen as moments of interruption, revelation and change. They break the familiar rhythm of the sky and remind us that even the things we believe are permanent can suddenly look very different.

The August 12 solar eclipse takes place in Leo, the sign connected with courage, identity, leadership, creativity and the heart. Spiritually and astrologically, solar eclipses are often viewed as the beginning of a new chapter. They can shine a light on the distance between who we truly are and who we have been pretending to be.

Collectively, this may bring stronger questions about authenticity. Are we living from truth, or are we performing for acceptance? Are we leading from the heart, or from ego? Are we using our voice to serve something meaningful, or simply trying to be seen?

This energy may expose wounded pride, false leadership and the need for constant validation, but it may also awaken something beautiful. People may feel called to reclaim their voice, step forward with more courage and stop hiding the gifts they came here to share.

The deeper lesson of Leo is not about becoming louder than everyone else. It is about becoming secure enough in your own light that you no longer need to dim another person’s.

The lunar eclipse on August 28 carries a very different energy. It takes place in Pisces, the sign connected with intuition, compassion, dreams, spirituality and the emotional waters we carry beneath the surface. Lunar eclipses are often associated with endings, truth rising into view and the release of what has reached the end of its cycle.

This part of the eclipse season may feel more emotional. Old grief may surface. Illusions may become harder to maintain. Some people may feel unusually sensitive, exhausted, restless or unsure of what they are feeling.

That does not mean something is wrong.

Sometimes what feels like confusion is simply truth moving through the layers we built to avoid it.

The most important thing we can do during this time is stay grounded. We do not need to fear the eclipse or treat every uncomfortable feeling like a warning. We do not need to force answers, chase signs or make permanent decisions in the middle of an emotional storm.

Slow down. Rest when your body asks for rest. Spend time in nature. Write down what is surfacing. Step away from unnecessary conflict. Give yourself enough silence to hear what is happening beneath the noise.

Observe more than you react.

This eclipse season is not here to punish us. It can become a mirror, showing us where we have abandoned our truth, where ego has been leading and where we are still holding onto something our soul may have already outgrown.

Let what needs to end, end.

Let what is real become clearer.

Let yourself release the version of you that was built only to survive.

Transformation does not always arrive as chaos. Sometimes it arrives as one quiet realization you can no longer ignore.

The sky may be shifting, but how we move through it is still our choice. Stay grounded. Keep your heart open. Trust what becomes clear, but give it time before you act.

And one practical reminder: because the eclipse will only be partial here in Maryland, there will be no safe moment to look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses or a proper solar viewer.

This is not a time for fear.

It is a time for awareness.
