Finding Your True Alignment: How to Trust the Spiritual Flow and Let Go of Control

In our fast-paced, modern world, we are often conditioned to believe that we must micro-manage every aspect of our lives. We are taught to push, strive, and exert our personal will to achievements. However, there is a deeper wisdom that suggests true peace and alignment do not come from forcing our way forward, but rather from learning to trust a higher guidance.

Reflecting on the profound wisdom from the Teachings of the Masters, we are reminded of a timeless truth: “As you honor the spiritual flow, you will realize there is a higher council, a higher advisement, that truly does know the right way to go.”

To step into this state of ease, we must explore what it means to surrender our need for control, quiet the ego, and actively honor the divine direction of our lives.

It is human nature to want to hold the reins. From a young age, we build identities centered around our personal strength, intellect, and willpower. While determination is a valuable trait, it becomes a hindrance when we use it to fight against the natural current of our lives.

The ego operates on a narrow frequency. It looks at the world through the lens of past experiences, fears, and societal expectations. When we insist that we know exactly what is best for us—and exactly how it must manifest—we limit our possibilities. This “silly insistence,” as the spiritual masters gently call it, often leads to burnout, anxiety, and missed opportunities. By acknowledging that our individual perspective is just a small piece of a much larger puzzle, we open the door to a more expansive, peaceful existence.

If we are not solely in charge, then who is? Many spiritual traditions refer to a “higher council” or “higher advisement.” You do not need to adopt a specific dogma to understand this concept.

When we quiet the noise of our analytical minds, we can begin to hear this subtle guidance. It does not shout; instead, it whispers in moments of stillness, giving us a comforting sense of clarity about the right steps to take.

The teachings emphasize that “the key is the honor.” But what does it mean to honor the spiritual flow?

Honoring is an active choice. It is not passive resignation or giving up on your dreams. Rather, to honor the flow is to treat the universe’s timing and direction with deep respect and trust. It means saying: “I have preferences and goals, but I trust that there is a wider plan unfolding that serves my highest good.”

Letting go of the ego’s insistence is a lifelong journey. There will always be moments when the desire to control resurfaces. When those moments arise, meet them with compassion. Smile at your mind’s attempt to protect you, and then gently step back into the stream of trust.
