The Power of Creating Sacred Space: Why It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

How often do you pressure yourself to maintain a cheerful, unflappable exterior? In our modern, fast-paced world, there is an unspoken expectation that we must always be “on.” We strive to be the positive friend, the resilient coworker, and the rock for our families. But what happens when life suddenly blindsides you?

In an instant, an unexpected event or a wave of emotion can shatter that carefully constructed happy persona. When this happens, those around you might feel unsettled. They may ask what’s wrong, or worse, project their own discomfort onto your shift in mood, leaving you feeling as though you have let them down.

A profound message from The Creator Writings remind us of a fundamental truth: you are human, and you do not owe anyone an apology for experiencing the full spectrum of human emotions. Embracing this truth is the first step toward creating a “sacred space” for your own healing and self-care.

From a young age, many of us are conditioned to believe that happiness is the only acceptable emotional state. We are praised for our smiles, our optimism, and our ability to “bounce back.” While positivity is undoubtedly a beautiful trait, forcing it during times of genuine distress leads to emotional exhaustion.

When you are blindsided by life’s challenges—whether it is a sudden loss, a personal setback, or simply an accumulation of daily stress—it is completely natural for your energy to shift. The people around you, accustomed to your usual warmth, might react with confusion or concern. Sometimes, their reaction can feel like a demand for you to return to your “normal” self.

It is vital to recognize that you are not a machine. You are a dynamic, living being with complex emotional needs. Expecting yourself to be happy 100% of the time is not only unrealistic; it is a disservice to your mental well-being.

When you feel down, your immediate instinct might be to apologize. “I’m sorry I’m not myself today,” or “Apologies for being a downer.” But why do we apologize for feeling pain, sadness, or grief?

These emotions are not flaws; they are natural, healthy indicators of your humanity. Feeling pain is often a sign of how deeply you care, how much you have loved, or how much you have invested in a dream or a relationship.

Practicing self-care means dismantling the belief that you must please others at the expense of your own emotional reality. While making others happy is wonderful, pleasing yourself and protecting your mental peace during difficult times must take priority. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and you certainly cannot heal while pretending you aren’t hurt.

Creating a sacred space does not necessarily mean building a physical altar or retreating from the world entirely (though it can include those things). Rather, a sacred space is an emotional and mental sanctuary. It is a boundary you draw around yourself that says, “This is my time to feel, to process, and to heal, without judgment.”

When you allow yourself this space, you permit your mind and body to move through difficult emotions at their own pace. You stop fighting the tide of your feelings and instead allow them to wash over you, knowing that the only way out of pain is through it.

Ultimately, creating a sacred space is an act of profound self-love. It is the realization that your value does not decrease when you are struggling. By honoring your not-so-good moments, you build a foundation of true emotional resilience—not the fragile kind that relies on hiding your pain, but the deep, authentic kind that comes from knowing you can survive life’s storms.

The next time you find yourself broadsided by life, remember the gentle reminder from the Creator: This is not something you need to apologize for… it is you being you. Be gentle with yourself, claim your sacred space, and allow yourself the grace to heal in your own time and in your own way.

Creating Sacred Space

August 8, 2026

How often do you allow yourself to have those not-so-good moments? You may have always been or worked toward becoming a happy person…then something broadsides you. In an instant you lose your happy persona and the people around you wonder what happened. They may even become upset that you are not the way you are supposed to be. Oh darn!

Remember my dearest child, you are human! You will have your moments. This is not something you need to apologize for…it is you being you. It is wonderful to please others, however, pleasing yourself and practicing self-care during times of sadness/grief/pain the most important thing. Allow that sacred space so you can move through it in a way that works for you. ~ Creator
