Finding True Freedom: Why Letting Go of Judgment and Embracing Love is the Ultimate Spiritual Practice

When we think about the basic necessities of life, our minds naturally drift toward physical essentials like nutritious food, clean water, and secure shelter. While these elements are undoubtedly crucial for our physical survival, there exists another tier of fundamentals that dictat the quality of our inner existence. True vitality is not merely about surviving; it is about thriving in a state of absolute spiritual freedom.

Spiritual freedom is the quiet space within us that remains untouched by internal conflict, anxiety, and resentment. It is the liberty to experience life exactly as it unfolds, without the heavy baggage of outdated ideas. To access this state of being, we must be willing to examine the mental habits that quietly lock us in place, starting with our tendency to evaluate, categorize, and pass judgment on the world around us.

We often view judgment as a tool for navigation, believing that labeling things as definitively right or wrong keeps us safe. However, drawing rigid conclusions actually builds a wall around our minds. When we make an absolute judgment about a person or a situation, we close the door to any new information or deeper understanding. Judgment acts as a major barrier to personal growth because it assumes we already know everything there is to know about a situation.

The truth is that while we may occasionally perceive what is correct for our own journey, we can never truly know what is right for someone else. When we impose our standards onto others, our conclusions are based on limited perspectives. This habit is particularly easy to overlook when we believe we are advocating for positive values. It is easy to criticize others for being narrow-minded, yet in doing so, we often fall into the exact same trap of rigidity. This creates a cycle where we simply draw a different line in the sand, remaining just as stubborn as those we oppose.

If judgment is the lock that keeps us confined, then forgiveness is the key that sets us free. Forgiveness is far more than a polite gesture or a moral obligation; it is a practical method for clearing away old, worn-out ways of thinking. When we choose to forgive, we are not condoning harmful actions, but rather choosing to see things as they truly are in the present moment, free from the weight of past grievances.

Forgiveness infuses our relationships with compassionate understanding and fresh energy. Interestingly, the need for forgiveness is directly tied to our tendency to judge. If we did not form negative conclusions in the first place, we would have nothing to forgive. Recognizing this connection allows us to extend compassion to ourselves. When we catch ourselves falling into old habits of criticism, we can gently forgive our own lack of awareness, recognizing that we simply did not know any better at the time.

A major obstacle to inner peace is the persistent desire to control how other people think and behave. We often disguise this desire as a pursuit of righteousness, convincing ourselves that we are merely trying to guide others toward the truth. However, attempting to enforce our own standards of righteousness is rarely an act of genuine care; more often, it is an attempt to manage our own discomfort through control.

True freedom cannot be forced, nor is it something we can actively hand out to others. Instead, it is a state of being that we must allow to exist naturally. This means we must give others the space to think differently, make their own mistakes, and discover their own truths. Rather than trying to dictate the thoughts of those around us, we can choose to appreciate the diverse ways that energy and life express themselves.

At the heart of all spiritual wisdom is the understanding that love is the most powerful force we can experience. This kind of love is not demanding, loud, or conditional. It does not take sides, nor does it require constant defense or reinforcement. Instead, genuine love is quiet, understanding, and all-encompassing. It allows people and situations to exist without demanding that they change to suit our preferences.

When we let go of the need to control our surroundings and instead focus on cultivating unconditional kindness, we align ourselves with a much larger flow of energy. Hearts naturally draw closer when they are given the space to do so on their own terms. By releasing our grip on how we think things should be, we create the perfect conditions for true harmony, peace, and lasting freedom to flourish in our daily lives.

The Basics | Heavenletters

God said:

There are basics of life. There are fundamentals of living. I am not speaking of food, drink, and shelter. I am talking about freedom.

Everything I teach you is to give you freedom. I say to let go of old worn-out thinking and beliefs. That is to give you freedom. I say to stop judging. Judging is drawing an inviolable conclusion. A conclusion keeps other thoughts out. Judgment is a great freedom-stopper. You may conceivably know what is right for you, but you do not know for someone else, so your judgments are false.

I say to forgive. Forgiveness is a great freedom-giver. Forgiveness is the same as letting go of old ways of thinking.

Forgiveness is putting a star on a relationship. Forgiveness is compassionate understanding. Forgiveness is seeing things as they are.

And those of you who expound freedom of thought may be just as much c****t in your singular thought as those you expound against. You abhor that people think in a narrow exculpatory vein, and yet that is what you do. You only see one way of looking at certain things as much as they do. Your thought is just as vehement, only you draw a different line in the sand from the line those you rail against draw.

Letting go of judgment is another way of holding onto freedom, only freedom cannot be held on to. It is like fire. You can raise it high, but you cannot carry its flame in your hand. Judgment is not yours to hold.

Judgment is like taking the whole pie and calling it yours when you can only eat one piece.

Freedom is not dispensed. It is not something you bestow on another. It is not yours to give. It is yours to allow to be there. Yes, you must even give freedom to others to think differently from you. You are not the decider of thoughts. You are not the wisdom-giver. But you are a wisdom-allower. You are an appreciator of energy that is greater than thought.

We have talked how wisdom is a form of love. It is a kindness. Wisdom comes from a great grasp of love. I am teaching you to love. Love is not vehement. Love has no platform. Love loves. Love is understanding. It is encompassing. It does not bind.

Before you can give up all your judgments, you have to notice them. Changing one judgment to another is not the same as giving up judgment. Judging differently is still judging. Judging comes from conclusion, and judging also makes predictions. It makes foregone conclusions.

Watch out for judgment, that precursor to forgiveness. If you did not judge, you would have nothing to forgive. So forgive yourself for judging. You didn’t know better. You thought it was the right thing to do.

And so think all those who see differently from you.

Judgment closes hearts, yours and the others’. It takes sides. Bias is limiting. You don’t see Me taking sides. You see Me giving love. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a point of view. I do. I know how I like things. But I see beyond My point of view to something greater than any point of view. Love does not take sides. It does not marshal itself. It doesn’t have to. Love, which is the most powerful energy in the world, does not need reinforcement. Conditions are reinforcement.

Righteousness is not always right. Righteousness is not always love. To be an imposer of righteousness certainly is not love. It is a control.

Let go of all the control you have been holding. Desire to control others’ thoughts is control. Ideas of control hamper freedom. Let freedom ring. Let hearts sing. Hearts will come together of their own accord. The only way hearts come together is through their own accord.
