Seeking More: How Letting Go of the Past Opens the Door to Divine Presence

We often find ourselves wrapped in the warm but ultimately restrictive blanket of nostalgia. Human nature draws us toward the comfort of yesterday, urging us to catalog our happiest moments and revisit them when the present feels challenging. While memories can bring a fleeting sense of sweetness, relying on them too heavily can prevent us from experiencing the fullness of life right now. To truly grow spiritually, we are invited to seek something much larger than mere sentimentality. We must learn to move beyond the ghosts of the past and the illusions of the future to discover the eternal treasures that reside only in the present moment.

Sentimentality is often viewed as a gentle, positive trait, yet it can be surprisingly limiting to our soul’s journey. When we cling to nostalgia, we are trying to satisfy a deep, spiritual hunger with the echoes of what once was. Memories, no matter how beautiful, are static pictures of moments that have already run their course. Trying to recapture them is like trying to grasp water; the effort leaves us feeling empty, longing for a time that cannot return. By recognizing that love and growth cannot remain locked in the past, we can begin to release these old mental images. This release is not about erasing our history, but about freeing our hearts to wander in a much vaster landscape of potential.

Just as looking backward can trap our energy, projecting our hopes too far ahead can also distract us from our true path. Wishes for the future often stem from a similar place of dissatisfaction with the current moment. When we constantly look for some future event to bring us happiness, we are projecting our peace onto a distant and uncertain screen. These wishes are simply the forward-facing counterpart to nostalgia—ghostly projections of a reality that does not yet exist. When we divide our attention, keeping one foot in the past and the other in the future, we find ourselves completely absent from the place where we actually stand.

The present moment is the only true stronghold of our lives. It is the active space where real transformation occurs, where joy is felt, and where we can both give and receive genuine blessings. When we cease our constant mental time travel and anchor ourselves in the now, we find a security that yesterday and tomorrow can never provide. The physical world encourages us to search for permanence in material things, yet physical reality is constantly shifting and changing. True stability is found only when we align ourselves with the current moment, stepping off the sticky pavement of regret and anxiety and into the flowing current of immediate experience.

At the deepest spiritual level, the present moment is where we connect with the divine. It is in this sacred, quiet space that we realize our oneness with a higher power, a bond that is eternal and unchanging. This connection is not a temporary feeling but a state of permanence that transcends the physical world. Infinity is not a distant destination we reach at the end of our journey; it is the very path we walk on every single day. By releasing our grip on the illusions of time, we open ourselves to the infinite love and peace that is always available right here, right now.

Ultimately, learning to seek more means recognizing that the greatest treasures of existence do not lie in what was or what might be. By letting go of the small sentiments and idle wishes that weigh us down, we make room for the expansive, beautiful reality of the present. As we step boldly into this moment, we find the true comfort, stability, and divine connection we have been searching for all along. We are invited to let go of the past, quiet our worries about the future, and embrace the infinite promise of today.

God said:

You are sentimental, but I am not. Sentiment is too small. Memories are filled with sentiment. Go beyond memories and sentiment. There is a larger field for you to roam in.

Wishes, which do not see far enough, are too short and come from sentiment also. Sentiment is a kind of longing, a longing you try to fill by popping a memory or a meager wish into your mouth. Memories are not long. They may go far back, but they are not long.

No need to hold on to your memories. Your memories are not love. They are remembered pictures that conjure up feelings. The feelings may be sweet, but it is not sweet to long for the past. It is idleness; the past and its feelings cannot return. Only ghosts of the past can appear; you know you cannot recapture. You are left bereft, and you feel sad. You cannot stay in the same place. You must walk on.

Let memories and sentiments go. Your mind and heart belong on greater than those.

Wishing is made of idle dreams as well. You wish for a sensation. You wish for something ahead of you to bring something to you. Wishes are ghosts as well, just focused on a different screen.

But there is real life before you. There are deep desires to be filled, and there are deep truths for you to discover. Let go of the past, and you will make new discoveries.

The past weighs you down. The past is made of thoughts when you were a hero or were loved or did love, but love cannot stay in the past. Love has to move. Be glad you had moments worth remembering, and let them go, because what is ahead of you is greater. And as soon as you reach that new banner, leave it, and race to the next one. Do not hurry, but race just the same. You race to the present. Drop the past, drop the future, and you are in the present. The present is the stronghold of your life. It is where your treasures lie.

I have recruited you to the present. The present is where you line up and are rewarded. The present is where you give rewards as well.

How happy you are when you let go of the past and of the future! When you have one foot behind and another ahead and are not where you are, where does that leave you?

Enter the land of the present. When you stay in one place on pavement, your feet may stick to the tar. When you jump ahead, your feet may stick even more. The present is secure. Past and future are not. They are naught. They do not even exist.

Only you and I exist, and We exist in this moment. This moment has become a bandied term, but it is the now of Us. It is Our embrace. It is Our enfoldment and unfoldment. In this moment are We. We do not have to hold on to it because there is always more of you and of Me, and Our Oneness of Being.

You can only be with Me. In our being We have permanence. Permanence is what you seek. Permanence is not staying the same on earth.

The permanence you seek is infinity, and infinity is the path you walk on. It has a firmness beyond the world’s firmness. It has a stability that is God-made. What you consider solid is not. It is only illusion.

Come to the reality of Our Oneness which exists in this preciousness between Us, and it is here right now for you. I am here. I am here. And you are here. This sacred moment right now is infinity, and it is Ours.
